Database Internships

And other Opportunities

Overview

Occassionally I get proposals for database internships or work. I am going to start posting them here. If you are interested in one, please contact me either by email at sconge@sccd.ctc.edu or by stopping by my office BE3176B

The internships can qualify for course credits, and count as experience.

There is no payment for these internships and projects unless otherwise noted

Community/Political Organization Database

Date Posted: 5/3/2010

The initial development will require 3 concurrent efforts:

  1. Starting with the exiting membership database, begin final development and testing of design.
  2. Design and develop the database interface as a web site using PHP
  3. Build a content management system using Wordpress and Plugins

Here is a link to a draft of the proposal Intern-Proposal.doc

The database seems to be MySql.

I suspect this will need more than one person. It would be best for a team of 2 to 4 people

ESL/Basic Studies

Date Posted: 5/3/2010

This database project involves creating a database to track Refugee and Immigrant Assistance students in order to develop reports for the Department of Health and Human Services. It may use Sql Server, but will more likely be done on Microsoft Access 2007. This project also could use more than one person since it involves not only database design but form and application design. It probably will involve programming either in C# or Visual Basic for Applications.

Capital Hill Chamber of Commerce

Date Entered: 7/28/2010

It has just come to my attention that the Capital Hill Chamber of Commerce needs a database. They have been using an Excel spreadsheet to track all their members and contacts and it has far outgrown its usefullness.

I do not have much additional information on this yet, though the database will probably be done in Access. It will also require form and report development. I don't have a timeline on it yet
