Each group will present their topic to the class. The presentation should
- Explain where the topic fits in the bigger picture (5-10 min)
- Go over the main features of the topic (highlight the top 4 or 5 concepts)(15 min)
- Demonstrate how to do the task. Ideally post a script on-line for the class to download and follow (15-30 min)
- Time for questions
The whole presentation should take no more than an hour. If it goes much beyond I may interrupt to end it.
Provide a list of resources you used for the presentation (web sites, books, etc.)
Suggestions
You can choose how you want to present your material. You can use PowerPoint, a web site, or just show the materials on the computer.
Try to understand the topic as well and as thoroughly as you can, but for the presentation focus only on the main points. Keep it Clear and as simple as you can while still getting the information across.
I will meet with each group before their presentation to help them prepare
Evaluation
Each presentation will be worth 50 points. I will give the group a sheet with their points after each presentation
I will be looking for the following things
- Clarity and organziation
- focus on the main points of the topic
- Brief explanation of where the topic fits in the broader context of Database Administration
- Helpful hints and suggestions to avoid pitfalls and difficulties
- The Demonstration of the topic(a walk through with the class)
- Answering questions
